Dr. Donna E. Weiss is a Florida licensed
psychologist and the founder of Forensic Psychology & Trauma,
L.L.C. - a private practice located in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Dr. Weiss
specializes in forensic psychology, which is the
intersection of psychology and the law. Courts across the United States are
increasingly calling upon the specialized knowledge of mental health experts
to assist them in answering complex legal questions related to domestic
violence, child abuse, juvenile offenders who have been transferred to adult
court, competency to proceed to trial, sanity, treatment needs of criminal defendants
suffering from
severe and persistent mental illnesses, dangerousness, sentencing, death penalty
mitigation, and psychological damages. Dr. Weiss works with attorneys and
judges throughout the United States on cases in
criminal,
civil, and
family
courts where mental health issues arise. She conducts forensic evaluations
with pre-trial criminal defendants in the jails, testifies regularly in the
Florida criminal courts, and provides
consultation to attorneys. Dr. Weiss
has unique expertise in trauma,
juvenile criminal forensic evaluations, and

Dr. Weiss earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from
University of Maryland in 1992, magna cum laude, and was elected to Phi Beta
Kappa. She then obtained two master’s degrees, a Master of Science in
Psychological Services from University of Pennsylvania in 1993 and a Master
of Science in Psychology from Nova Southeastern University in 1996.
She earned a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology (Psy.D.) from Nova
Southeastern University in 2000. She completed her clinical internship at
Medical College of Virginia, and was awarded a National Institute of Mental
Health (NIMH) postdoctoral fellowship in clinical health psychology from
University of Miami. Dr. Weiss recognizes that forensic psychology is a
constantly evolving field with frequent advances in research. Therefore, she
regularly travels all over the country to attend quality continuing
education courses taught by world-renowned experts. By keeping current in
the scientific literature and furthering her understanding of the complex
interface between psychology and the law, she is able to utilize the most
up-to-date cutting edge techniques available when conducting forensic
psychological evaluations.
